Where this goes wrong
  • A scanned PDF with no text layer produces nothing until it is OCR'd, and OCR misreads digits more often than letters — the opposite of what a quantitative chapter can tolerate.
  • Two-column layouts can interleave at extraction. If a definition reads like two half-sentences spliced together, that is the cause, not the model.
  • Study guides for your own use are fine; a chapter-by-chapter reproduction redistributed to others is not. Keep the guide to your own notes and citations.
Questions people ask
Can it take a whole 400-page textbook?

It can, but work chapter by chapter. A guide spanning 400 pages loses the density that makes revision fast; per-chapter guides collected into one workspace keep that density and still cross-link.

What happens to tables?

They are kept as table elements rather than being linearised into a sentence, so a figure stays aligned to its row and column labels. Complex nested tables are the case most likely to lose alignment, so check any figure you plan to quote.

Does it work on slide decks exported to PDF?

Well, actually — decks are mostly headings and figures, which is the part that survives extraction best. The weakness there is different: a deck assumes a talk track the file does not contain, so the guide will have gaps the slides never filled.
