Of everything on this list, a thread converts to a deck most cleanly, because both forms are built on the same constraint: one unit, one idea, no room to hedge. The formats rhyme, which is exactly the trap. A thread often spends three posts building to one point, and mapping each post to a slide produces a deck that advances three times without saying anything. The turns in the argument are the slide breaks; the posts in between are the speaker notes, and telling them apart is the entire job.

The four steps

Where this goes wrong
  • If the slide count matches the post count, the argument was never extracted and you have a thread in 16:9.
  • Charts pulled from a thread carry the author's own styling and axis choices. Re-cut them before anything goes in front of a client.
  • A thread is a public argument by a named person. Presenting it internally without that name attached is how a stranger's opinion becomes your team's assumption.
Questions people ask
How many slides from a thread?

Usually six to eight from a fourteen-post thread, because several posts typically build to a single point. If you are getting one slide per post, the deck is following the format rather than the reasoning.

Does it produce a PowerPoint file?

It produces the content and the structure — titles, the assertion each slide makes, the data slides and the notes. Dropping that into your own template is a paste, and it is the part worth doing by hand anyway.

What if the thread has no charts?

Then there are no data slides, and the deck is an argument without evidence. That is worth knowing before you present it, which is why the data section stays visibly empty rather than being filled with decoration.
